Mt Somers Paddock Agates are found on the rolling low land area of the station. They are different from the agates found in the adjacent hill areas, and most likely have been deposited by minor glacial action in the past. A high percentage of the agates have crystalline centres, and are reminiscent of agates found further up the Ashburton Gorge. Most of these can only be found after the farmer has ploughed the fields. I have found several large agates this way. Click on a thumbnail to see the full sized image.
